Memory Junction Scrapbooking Since 1997
See Our Frequently Asked Questions Our History - Who We Are MemoryJunction.com began as Memory Junction ~ Scrapbook Headquarters in the summer of 1997. The owner of Memory Junction ~ Scrapbook Headquarters, Jessie McKinnon. was at a career crossroads. At the same time, the scrapbook industry was just beginning to make its way out of the cottage industry environment. Grasping the possibilities of a growing market and fulfilling a lifelong dream of owning her own store, Jessie opened one of the first scrapbook stores in the State of Wisconsin. The brick and mortar store opened for business in October, 1997 in Hartland, Wisconsin, a small village northwest of Milwaukee. After being in that location for about two years, the space became crowded and the store was moved to Pewaukee, Wisconsin. Memory Junction flourished. The store brought to crafters the latest products from leading scrapbook manufacturers including products for creating family, baby, graduation, sports, school, wedding, travel, and vacation scrapbook pages. Rubber stamps from many popular rubber stamp companies provided products for the creative minds and hearts of those who just liked to make cards. Plus, Memory Junction ~ Scrapbook Headquarters housed one of the largest creative die cut centers in the state. Memory Junction ~ Scrapbook Headquarters was a leader in the emerging scrapbook industry in 1997 and beyond. It provided a venue for scrapbook and rubber stamp consumers to find product, instruction, and services to assist them in their creative pursuits. For those who had grasped the importance of preserving their memories, Memory Junction was there to help. Memory Junction ~ Scrapbook Headquarters was one of the first stores in Southeastern Wisconsin for scrapbook supplies and quickly became a destination for scrapbook and rubber stamp enthusiasts from Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. As life goes, many changes came along and the brick and mortar location of Memory Junction ~ Scrapbook Headquarters closed in December, 2006. The legacy of that store lives on as MemoryJunction.com an ONLINE presence for the scrapbook and rubber stamp enthusiast by providing creative products AND custom diecuts. We invite you to browse through our website and visit our ONLINE stores. We say stores because we do have TWO stores: SHOP ONLINE is scrapbooking, rubber stamping, and crafting products. The CUSTOM DIE CUTS store is where you can create your own hard to find titles, words, overlay and die cut pages, and other die cut products for your scrapbook pages in the cardstock colors of your choice.

HOW DO I KNOW WHICH ADHESIVE TO USE? |
TOP |
| |
Good question! Because you are spending a lot of time and money on your scrapbook pages, you definitely want to make the best choice possible. Adhesives are a staple item for any scrapbook project. Not all adhesives are created equal, however. Basically, adhesives are available in two types: wet and dry. And they have different purposes. WET adhesives imply that they are liquid and include such brands as MonoAqua, MonoMulti, and glue pens. Wet adhesives are useful for working with small pieces of paper such as punch outs, die cuts, or other small embellishments. For adhering metal objects and embellishments, use an adhesive that has a high tack quality but is still safe for your pages such as Gloo from KI Memories or Metal Glue from Making Memories. DRY adhesives are those that have the glue substance adhered to a paper backing and are a double sided adhesive. You will find these in “squares” or in a filament tape. The tape adhesives are applied using a dispenser. The “squares” come in packages that require you to pull the backing off. These are great for covering larger surfaces and larger projects such as adhering photos to mats, mats to pages, or mat to mat. Dotto from EKSuccess is an example of a dry adhesive. Plus there are other types of adhesives including the glue dots and lines from Glue Dots International or Zots. These are great for adhering heavier embellishments and even ribbon to your pages. Warning! Don’t pick them up with your fingers because they “stick like glue.” Read the package directions to learn about appropriate application.

WHAT IS THE BEST ALBUM TO CHOOSE? |
TOP |
| |
Well, that depends. And a lot depends on your personal preferences. Selecting a scrapbook, or album, as some people say, is the single most important decision you make when beginning a new scrapbook project. Answer these questions to help you decide which album will work best for you: What size and thickness of book will I be creating? What is the purpose of my scrapbook? Do I need to add pages to the scrapbook? Are refills available for the scrapbook I choose? How easy is it to add or move pages?
Once you have made these decisions, you can look at the many different choices. Scrapbooks come in many sizes and styles and designs. A small one such as a 6x6, 8x8, or 9x9 are excellent choices for a memorial, special event, or gift book for grandmothers, dads, moms, teachers, or a special friend. The 12x12 scrapbooks are excellent for long term projects such as for children or vacations, or for books that will be added to over the months or years. Albums come in basically four different types: spiral, three-ring binders, post bound, and strap hinge: Spiral: Pages in these albums are permanently attached in a spiral binding and pages cannot be added. These make great gift albums or event albums where additional pages are not necessary. Many sizes are available in this type of album. Three-ring Binders: A 3-ring mechanism holds sheet protectors filled with your page layouts. Pages can be easily added or moved around. These albums are generally larger than ordinary office type binders to allow the sheet protectors to stay within the covers of the album. Many sizes are available including 12x12, 8 ½ x 11, 5 ½ x 8 ½ and even smaller ones are becoming popular such as a 6x6. Post Bound Albums: Pages are held together with a post and screw mechanism located in the spine of the album. It is easy to add or move pages around with this type of album. Most post bound albums come with sheet protectors and some even come with acid free paper inserts (white usually). Many sizes are available including 6x6, 7x5, 8x8, 9x9, 8 ½ x 11, and 12x12. Keep in mind that each manufacturer has their own refill pages and they generally are not interchangeable with other manufacturers’ albums even though they are the same size. TIP: Remember the name of the manufacturer of the album you buy so you can look for refills from that same manufacturer. Strap Hinge Albums: This album has a unique strap mechanism laced through a “staple” type hinge to secure pages to the front and back covers of the album. These albums are expandable. Page protectors slide onto the page from the side to protect the page layout. Layouts are attached to the front and back of the pages. This arrangement requires you to know exactly how the pages will be placed into the book because it is difficult to add additional pages or rearrange completed pages. Sizes available include 7x5, 8 ½ x 11, and 12x12.

ARE STICKERS STILL USED ON SCRAPBOOK PAGES? |
TOP |
| |
Absolutely! Stickers today are so much better than they were several years ago. The new card stock stickers and realistic photo stickrs are just two examples of how stickers have evolved over the years. Manufacturers have created quality products that give you an artistic addition to your pages in dozens of themes that are compatible with a variety of lifestyles and activities. Stickers were the first embellishment scrapbookers used on their page layouts, but they won’t be the last. Rub ons are becoming very popular as well and many scrapbookers are choosing rub ons rather than stickers. You will find many different colors, styles, and designs to enhance any scrapbook page. |

HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO USE “ACID FREE” PAPER? |
TOP |
| |
Paper is your number one ingredient in the mix for scrapbooks that will last a lifetime. So, you want to choose papers that can stand the test of time. Because many papers are made from wood, they contain components that break down over time. Today’s processing removes harmful lignin and neutralizes the acidic compounds so that the paper doesn’t become brittle or break down over time. Look at your daily newspaper and your children’s art projects created on construction paper. Over time, these papers turn yellow, fade, and become brittle as they are exposed to light and the environment. These papers are inexpensive papers and are not designed to last long. Choose papers for your scrapbooks that are noted as “acid free/lignin free” to insure the highest quality product for your treasured memories. |
